The Biodiesel production segment is the dominant and most lucrative application for used cooking oil (UCO) in France.

𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: UCO is a rapidly preferred feedstock for biodiesel production in France due to its lower carbon intensity and cost advantages compared to virgin vegetable oils.

It is the largest revenue-generating application segment.

The growing demand for sustainable and renewable energy sources, supported by government policies and the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II), strongly drives this demand.

UCO can be upgraded into high-quality renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which broadens industrial demand and supports the decarbonization of transportation and industrial sectors.

For example, UCO can be converted into B100 biofuel, which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to diesel.

𝐎𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬: UCO is increasingly used as a feedstock for oleochemicals, which are used to manufacture products like:

Soaps, detergents, and biosurfactants.

Lubricants and biodegradable cleaning products.

This segment provides price stability for UCO suppliers and is growing as industries embrace green chemistry.

𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝: UCO is used for its nutritional value as an energy source and source of essential fatty acids in animal feed composition, helping to support cost-effective feed production.

The largest volume of UCO is generally generated by the commercial sector.

𝐇𝐨𝐑𝐞𝐂𝐚 (𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐬, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐬): This commercial sector is a substantial source of UCO due to high oil turnover and consistent consumption of cooking oil. This segment led the market with 64.57% of the used cooking oil market share globally in 2024, thanks to organized collection systems.

𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐬 (𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥): This segment is a significant player, as they generate a substantial volume of used cooking oil during their production processes.

𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝: Public awareness campaigns are encouraging households to participate in organized collection, gradually shifting UCO from an unmanaged waste stream to a recyclable resource. This segment is expected to show the fastest growth in the coming years due to increased awareness and improved collection programs.
